INFRA-RED

The title Infra-redsuggests that there is something to be seen which is not easily visible, and that requires looking beyond the surface. In relation to my work with portraiture, it implies interest in a deeper or broader consideration of what it is to be human, rather than a focus on the external properties of a subject.

A catalogue accompanied this exhibition in 2002 with essays by David Bunn and Jessica Dubow, their texts still profoundly resonate with my practice. Karel Nel, my long time mentor and friend, contributed transcripts of two previous exhibition-opening speeches that represent some of the first critical assessment of my work. Their texts are included in the ‘texts and catalogues’ section of this website.
